Cross IS Boss

I’ve been seeing the notices on Facebook announcing the Singlespeed Cyclocross World Championship race being held this year in Santa Cruz, https://sscxwc23sc.com/ and it reminds me that the cyclocross racing season will be here sooner than later.

Typically racing starts in earnest in September or maybe late August, and can go past the holidays into January.  That is a long, intense period of racing, even if the races are a short duration.  How do you prepare for this?

When I was 100% immersed in cyclocross, I would hang up the mountain bike in August and ride my cross bike exclusively.  This would go a long way in gaining confidence in my bike handling skills with those skinny little tires!  I had endurance fitness from racing mountain bikes, but also needed to shift into a different mindset/training plan to be prepared for cyclocross in September.

But it’s June…why should I care about cyclocross racing now?

It’s also gravel season; same sort of bike, but very different style of racing!  How does one transition from endurance events to high heartrate/high intensity events?  Enjoy your gravel season, but if you’re gunning for a solid cyclocross season in the fall, you will want to stop racing gravel by mid-July and start shifting your training for cyclocross.

We have the experience to prepare you for a successful season.  We have raced at the state, national and international level in championship races, and also super fun events like Halloween races Singlespeed Worlds.   We’ve raced in sand, dust, gravel, duff, MUD, rain, sleet, snow and every combination in between, all requiring a different skill or perspective.

Enjoy your gravel, road and mountain bike season now, with an eye towards preparing for the greatest season of all…CROSS BABY!
