Mastering Fitness Habits: Your Guide to Year-Round Success!

Creating New Habits

It’s the start of a new year, and you’re thinking about your spring/summer adventures. However, you also know that you can’t just jump on the bike a month before a big event and not suffer to the point of experiencing NO enjoyment. That’s where establishing good habits now will set you up for success six months from now.

What Do I Do?

Keep It Simple and Doable!

Here are five examples of keeping it simple so you will set yourself up for success:

  1. Find Something Fun

  2. Make It Convenient

  3. Put It on Your Calendar

  4. Set Realistic Goals

  5. Stay Flexible

Finding something fun in the dead of winter isn’t always easy, but the goal is to keep moving! Indoor training can be very enjoyable when using tools like Strava, Peloton, etc. Staring at the wall while turning endless circles is no longer an option!

There’s nothing more convenient than working out at home if that works best for you. Finding a comfortable location at home or in the gym is something that you can do!

And then, put your workouts on your calendar.

AND STICK TO YOUR WORKOUTS.

Goals can be tricky. Maybe you have a goal of riding in your first gravel event in the spring, so you think you need to work out every day, with endless hours on the bike. No…your goal is to create a program that you can successfully implement! This is the "Enjoy the Journey and Not the Destination" part of the equation. Keeping your workouts and yourself a high priority will keep you motivated. That gravel event will still be there, but you will be ready with consistency now.

And most importantly, Stay Flexible! Life WILL get in the way. We have two rules: if you’ve been working out for 20 minutes and still feel awful, stop. Try again tomorrow. Our second rule is to try not to miss two days in a row. And if you do, get back into your workout schedule as soon as you can.
